Football-themed maths worksheets now online

Football-themed maths worksheets now online

Albion in the Community has launched the first in a series of Albion-themed maths worksheets to help keep young fans engaged in their schoolwork while studying at home.

As part of its Together in the Community campaign which launched last week, the charity is coming up with new ways to help local pupils keep learning throughout the Covid-19 crisis.

First up are two maths worksheets aimed at children in Key Stage Two or Key Stage Three.

A quickfire maths teaser worksheet contains 14 two-step maths questions themed around the Albion’s Premier League and Women’s Super League teams and the American Express Community Stadium.

The second activity challenges pupils to solve multi-step equations using the squad numbers of Albion players.

Both worksheets – and the accompanying answer sheets – can be downloaded for free on Albion in the Community’s website, HERE.

Parents and guardians can also find links to some of the football-themed educational resources which have been produced by the Premier League, including interactive spelling and maths games, and a football activity pack.

Albion in the Community works with more than 150 local schools and delivers the Premier League Primary Stars programme here in Sussex.

Rob Josephs, the charity’s schools manager, said: “Using football is a great way of way of encouraging children to engage in their schoolwork.

“As a sport it fits perfectly with maths, with stats and numbers running throughout the game. Just shaping a maths challenge around a pupil’s favourite Albion players, or using numbers from the stadium they love going to, can really make them think differently about a subject.”

Albion in the Community will be adding more worksheets as the weeks go by and is planning some longer football-themed education projects for fans to tackle, and potentially some live lessons online.

The charity is also helping young people stay active while at home, with weekly football challenges and skills and tricks young players can learn in their gardens released on Albion in the Community’s YouTube channel, which parents can find HERE.
