Helping Lawrance lose nearly two stone in just 12 weeks

Helping Lawrance lose nearly two stone in just 12 weeks

The Kick Off the Weight programme has dramatically changed Lawrance Butterworth’s perception on diet and exercise, and helped a group of men lose more than 12 stone.

In terms of healthy eating and regular exercise, many across the country abandoned this way of life as soon as the country was plunged into lockdown. Lawrance fell victim to this sedentary way of living and reached 15 stone 6 lbs.

At this point, the weight scales had ticked over to the greatest number in Lawrance’s life. The 60-year-old knew what he needed to do. It was time for him to kick off the weight, and Albion in the Community (AITC) supported him through this journey.

The father pinpointed one moment when he realised that he needed to do something about his physical appearance.

“When I was allowed back into the office after lockdown, I went to put on a shirt and I couldn’t do the buttons up. It was then that I knew I needed to do something about my weight.”

One night, Lawrance was scrolling through Facebook and found an advert for the charity’s Kick Off the Weight programme.

This 12-week course, funded by Adur & Worthing Council, provided Lawrance with insightful nutritional advice alongside circuit training and long-distance walks. In a supportive environment, Lawrance completed the programme alongside ten other men.

In the space of three months, the ticker on his weight scales plummeted to 13 stone 9 lbs. Lawrance managed to lose just shy of two stone and an incredible three inches from his waist.

Not only can Lawrance now fit into the very shirt which inspired him to lose weight in the first place, but he may need to do some online shopping for an even slimmer shirt.

Although, it wasn’t just a raging success for Lawrance, as the entire Kick Off the Weight cohort managed to lose an incredible 12 stone 9 lbs. Jean Parris-Attfield, who delivers the AITC programme, was delighted with the group’s progress.

“Change is never an easy thing to do, but when it could be a positive benefit to your health, it’s the change that could make all the difference. I am so pleased that the whole group have embraced the course and now feel the positive health benefits of their incredible weight loss.”
