Maidenbower win national tournament representing Albion
A team of Year 6 boys from a Crawley school were crowned champions at a national Premier League schools football tournament.
Maidenbower Junior School were chosen to represent the Albion at the Premier League Primary Stars National Tournament.
Maidenbower were one of hundreds of teams who entered the tournament, which culminated in the final at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium on Wednesday (12 June).
After making it through the group stages, Maidenbower went on to win the Under-11s mixed tournament.
The tournament takes place every year as part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme. Primary Stars is an education programme funded by the Premier League, supporting schools and bringing football clubs into the classroom to help inspire younger pupils.
The Foundation works with around 150 schools across Sussex, and our tutors deliver Primary Stars lessons to thousands of children every year.
Rob Josephs, the Foundation’s Education & Employability manager, was proud of Maidenbower’s achievement.
“The whole team have done a remarkable job,” he said, “They’ve done the Albion proud, the Foundation proud, and themselves proud.
“Playing on the pitch at a Premier League stadium is an experience they’ll never forget.
“Premier League Primary Stars is a fantastic programme, using football to engage kids and help them to learn key skills. Having tournaments like these that the kids can get involved in makes it even more exciting for them.”
