Foundation launches new mental health football programme
Heads Up, a new programme aimed at supporting people’s mental health, has been launched by the BHAFC Foundation.
The charity will be running several groups across Brighton and Hove, bringing people closer together through their love of football.
Young people aged 12-18, and adults aged 30-50, will be able to benefit from Heads Up.
The adult sessions are open to anyone looking to boost their mental wellbeing through regular, friendly inclusive football for all abilities.
Heads Up is also supporting young people’s wellbeing in targeted schools in Brighton & Hove.
Young people are referred by their school based on need, and sessions are tailored to help them improve their emotional wellbeing, build positive relationships, and develop their confidence.
Lynsey Hermann, Head of Community Programmes at the Foundation, said: “We think that football has a massive role to play in supporting people’s mental health, so we’re delighted to have our Heads Up programme now up and running.
“Albion is such a big part of life in the city so using the power of the club to support people’s mental health is a great opportunity to make a difference.
“These sessions will help develop people’s confidence and resilience, get them active regularly, and help to build up their social skills. We’re excited to see the impact Heads Up will have over the coming months.”
Heads Up is supported by the Premier League and PFA Players’ Fund, which supports clubs to develop partnerships to tackle inequality and respond to local challenges.
