Golf Day raises £160k for Foundation

Golf Day raises £160k for Foundation

Dozens of golfers took part in a record-breaking Brighton & Hove Albion golf day earlier this month.

The annual event raises a significant amount of money to support the charity, and this year’s iteration saw a record £160,000 raised.

Golfers helped raise funds through ticket sales, a silent auction, sponsorships and donations. Mannings Heath, a stunning 500-acre estate near Horsham, played host to the golf day.

The golfers took on an 18-hole course, joined by Albion legends Glenn Murray and Guy Butters.

As in previous years, the event was once again generously supported by Linda and Tony Bloom. Group 1 Brighton BMW and Sodexo Live sponsored the golf day, which was also supported by British Airways.

Mark Barkaway, Head of Marketing and Income Generation at the Foundation, said: “The golf day is a really important date in our calendar every year, and every year Albion fans always come out in force to help us make the day really special.

“We raised a tremendous, record-breaking amount this year and we’re all delighted with how the event has gone.

“Thank you to everyone who attended the event, and to all of our sponsors, partners, and friends at the football club who helped make the day happen.

“This money will be really significant for the charity and will help us to bring football to people all over Sussex.”

Foundation staff also paid tribute to Peter Godfrey and Robert Comer, two important figures in both the history of the club and the organisation of the annual golf day.

“Peter’s been brilliant for us every year,” Guy Butters said, “It never ceases to amaze me how he gets the auction to such a total each year.

“The support he’s given us is fantastic, he goes from strength to strength each year and I can’t wait to see what he’s got planned for next year.”

Mark Barkaway added: “The Golf Day wouldn’t be the success that it is today without the support of Peter and Robert, who as members of the board of directors have helped to grow and develop this into such an amazing event that raises the money that it does for the Foundation.”

Our disability football programme was a key focus at the golf day. All the money raised through ticket sales, the charitable auction, and other donations from the golf day will help directly support football in Sussex.

People in attendance were shown first-hand the impact their support can have; they were introduced to Saul, who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion Cerebral Palsy FC.

Saul told them his inspiring story, and golfers also heard from Foundation CEO Joe Jenkins and coaches on the disability football programme.
