Albion blind team top of the league as disability football season gets underway

The 2022/23 season is beginning to pick up pace across our different national teams.

Brighton & Hove Albion Blind FC had a particularly impressive start to the season, and they currently sit at the top pf the National Blind Football League.

The Seagulls are building on their success in the FA Blind Cup in the summer – they finished runners up in the competition at St George’s Park, with the game broadcast live to thousands of people on BT Sport.

The beginning of the season has seen significant disruption for some of our other teams, both as a result of international tournaments and the postponement following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Brighton & Hove Albion Amputee FC

Our amputee team saw their season delayed as a result of the Amputee Football World Cup in Turkey, which took place during September and October.

The Seagulls have been keeping themselves busy however – we hosted a friendly tournament in September between the Albion, Portsmouth, and Arsenal.

The tournament was successful, with players gaining important match-fitness in competitive games against other top sides. The team are now working towards a pre-season league event on 19 November.

Brighton & Hove Albion Blind FC

Our blind team actually began their season earlier this summer, before taking an extended break from league fixtures in recent months.

The team last played a league fixture in July but had a training camp in September, while a number of the squad have been called up to join the England national team.

The league resumes on Saturday 15th October with fixtures being held at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre in Lancing for the very first time.

We’ll be hosting RNC Hereford and Merseyside in a series of fixtures in Lancing to kick off the resumed league season.

Brighton & Hove Albion Cerebral Palsy FC

Our CP team kicked off their league season with three fixtures against Chelsea and Norwich in September.

The team had a tough start with some key players missing, and despite a brilliant effort on the pitch, slipped to defeats in their three matches.

The team have regrouped and recently played Surrey CP in a friendly ahead of their next league fixtures on Saturday 15th October, where they will take on Derby and West Bromwich Albion.

CP Seagull Sean Millership was recently selected for Scotland in the IFCPF World Championships in Italy – he helped Scotland finish as runners-up, playing in five games and scoring once throughout the tournament.

Brighton & Hove Albion Powerchair FC

Our national Powerchair Football side have had a disrupted start to their season.

The Seagulls won promotion from the WFA Championship last year and now sit at the top level of Powerchair Football in the UK.

Their first league fixtures were cancelled at late notice following the death of Queen Elizabeth, and the team are next in action in December, so have an extended wait before starting their league campaign.

However, our regional Powerchair team did manage to start their season in September, picking up a draw against Norwich PFC before slipping to a narrow defeat against Sevenoaks. The team is a mixture of senior players from our national league squad and some who only play regionally, with Alex Laid being the latest to make his debut in the fixtures.
