Albion disability teams in action

The Foundation’s disability football sides have been busy in recent weeks.
Hundreds of people are part of the Foundation’s disability football programme, and within that there are several disability-specific teams competing regionally and nationally.
The Foundation cerebral palsy (CP) team is approaching the end of another competitive league season. They will round off the year by competing in the Cerebral Palsy Cup at St George’s Park in May.
Head Coach Abbie Burrows is proud of the progress that her side have made this season.
She said: “The team has taken steps in the right direction this season, they’re finding their feet in the league and becoming more competitive.
“This season we’ve made a big improvement, gaining eight more points and scoring nine more goals than in the previous league campaign.
“I’ve been delighted to see the team’s confidence and camaraderie growing this season, which has created a great environment at training sessions. We’ve had several young players make their national league debuts and the team is now made up of a good mix of youth and experience.”
Meanwhile, the Foundation’s amputee team has been in tournament action recently.
The Foundation amputee side competed in the ‘Tackling Matters’ tournament on Good Friday.
The tournament saw amputee teams from across the country play at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to help raise funds for those affected by the conflict in Ukraine – the tournament was played on a temporary pitch, which will be shipped to Ukraine and rebuilt to serve communities there.
The Foundation’s disability football programme is always welcoming new players, and the cerebral palsy side in particular is keen for new players to join the group ahead of the 2025/26 season.
All players with cerebral palsy or an acquired brain injury aged 14 or older are welcome. The team trains on Monday nights at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre in Lancing.
