Baleba helps deliver No Room For Racism workshop

Carlos Baleba helped BHAFC Foundation tutors deliver a No Room For Racism workshop for young players in Lancing.

The Albion midfielder was on hand to answer questions about the importance of the No Room For Racism campaign in a special workshop for players in the Foundation’s football pathway programme.

As part of the charity’s work to combat discrimination and educate the next generation about equality, Foundation tutors often hold lessons and workshops in local schools around topics including racism and sexism.

Carlos spoke about his own experiences of promoting the campaign, and touched on the importance of players making their voices heard.

He emphasised that football is the world’s most popular sport and the Premier League is its biggest stage, and that football has an opportunity to lead the way for other areas of society.

During the workshop Foundation tutors took part in interactive activities with the young players, taught them the definitions of key terminology, and discussed the importance of taking action against racist behaviour.

Matt Dorn, CEO of the BHAFC Foundation, said: “The No Room For Racism campaign is such an important issue and we do everything we can to help promote it among our young player base.

“Having Carlos’ support at this workshop meant that our players could ask their questions to someone at the forefront of promoting No Room For Racism on the pitch. It made a huge impact on our youngsters and it was a day they won’t ever forget.

“This workshop was just one of many that we run throughout the year, and we aim to educate as many young people as we can about such a key issue.”

Albion’s Premier League fixture at home to Leicester City tomorrow (12 April) is the club’s designated No Room For Racism fixture.

The club will be highlighting the work of the campaign, and what action supporters can take to help kick discrimination out of the game.
