Disability teams in tournament action

Some of Albion’s disability football teams have taken part in exhibition tournaments this October.

The Albion Down’s syndrome team travelled to Ballerz in Kent to compete in a tournament hosted by the Charlton Athletic Community Trust.

The Seagulls faced off against teams including Charlton, Everton, Fulham, and Norwich in the Down’s Syndrome Football Festival.

Alongside participating in seven-a-side matches which took place throughout the day, players and their families were able to enjoy high-tech football skills games at the state-of-the-art Ballerz Air Dome.

Our amputee side was also in action earlier this month – they travelled up to London for an exhibition tournament against Arsenal, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Scotland, which coincided with the Arsenal men’s first team fixture against Shakhtar.

Phil Broom, Disability Football Lead at the BHAFC Foundation, spoke about the importance of competitive tournaments like these.

“We’ve been involved in some fantastic tournaments this month,” he said, “they give our players the chance to play at their best level and they’re something exciting to look forward to.

“Everyone represented the Albion excellently and played with pride – well done to all the players and coaches involved.”
