Double success for Albion youngsters at Canary Cup
Foundation teams once again enjoyed a successful Canary Cup outing in Norwich last week.
Young players from across the country travelled to The Nest, the home of Norwich City CSF, to represent their local professional teams in a series of tournaments.
We sent eight teams to represent the Albion, with players aged from eight to 14 making the journey to Norwich.
They had to see off competition from teams representing Norwich, Watford, QPR, Aston Villa, and more.
The Canary Cup kicked off with the Under-11s and Under-12s tournaments; both of our sides made it all the way to the semi-finals, losing out to Aston Villa and Shrewsbury respectively.
The next day saw our two Under-9s teams perform very well, with both teams meeting in the semi-final before one went on to beat Norwich 1-0 in the final.
Our Under-13s also competed that day and made it to the quarter finals.
The third day of the tournament saw our Under-14s side finish victorious; they won their quarter-final and semi-final clashes on penalties before winning the final 2-0.
Meanwhile, our Under-10s narrowly lost to Norwich in their final to finish as runners-up.
Mark Pedrick, Football Pathway manager at the Foundation, was extremely proud of his young players’ performance.
“All eight teams who travelled to Norwich have represented us so well. They played some brilliant football and showed off what we’re all about here at the Foundation,” he said.
“Winning two of the tournaments is obviously a great achievement, but I’m proud of each and every player who represented us over the three days.
“It was a great tournament from start to finish, and I know that everyone had a fantastic time. Thank you to Norwich for once again putting on a brilliant Canary Cup.”
