Foundation teams travel to Norwich for Canary Cup
Six BHAFC Foundation squads travelled to Norfolk to take part in the Canary Cup last week.
The Canary Cup is Norwich CSF’s annual youth football tournament, which sees clubs from across the region take part in a competitive day of fixtures at The Nest.
Foundation players aged 9 to 16 represented the Albion at the tournament.
Nathan Casselton, Football Participation Manager at the Foundation, was proud of how his players accounted themselves.
“A huge well done to all our age groups who represented the Foundation brilliantly,” he said, “Their performances on and off the pitch were outstanding and we couldn’t be prouder of every single player.”
- Under-10s: Topped their group and won their semi‑final 2–1 vs Norwich before finishing as runners up, narrowly losing 4–2 to Arsenal ETC in the final.
- Under-11s: Played up an age group in the Under-12s tournament and competed well throughout the group stages.
- Under-12s: Faced a strong group and just missed out on progressing to the knockout rounds.
- Under-14s: Entered as two mixed U13/U14 squads – one team narrowly missed out on the semi‑finals after a 1–1 draw in their final group game, and the other topped their group, beat Colchester 1–0 in the semi‑final, and finished runners up after a tight 2–1 AET defeat to Nottingham Forest.
- Under-16s: A fantastic achievement from an U15s squad playing up an age group. After finishing 3rd in the group, they beat Brentford 1–0 in the semi‑final before a last‑kick 30‑yard strike saw them fall 1–0 AET in the final against a Norwich side with several U16s.
Nathan said: “Across all age groups, the girls and parents represented the Foundation superbly.
“These experiences are invaluable for the players’ development, and we take huge positives forward as we look ahead to next season’s Canary Cup.”
