Girls visit training ground for inspiring football careers day
Girls from two Sussex schools were joined by Albion star Katie Robinson at a ‘Careers in Football’ event last week.
Around 25 girls aged between 11 and 14 were invited to an inspiring careers talk at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre in Lancing.
The girls – from Uckfield College and King’s Academy Ringmer – listened to a presentation and took part in some activities based around encouraging them to pursue a career in football.
To help inspire the girls, Albion and England star Katie Robinson joined the group to share her experience of women’s football.
Rob Josephs, Schools Manager at AITC, says that events like these are important in encouraging young girls to stay engaged in football.
“We want to see more women working in football, and that all starts when they’re at a young age,” Rob told us.
“Having Katie come down and talk to the girls was really great, I know they were excited to meet her and she had a lot of wisdom to share with the group.
“It’s so important that we inspire them now – when they’re approaching an age where they’ll start to decide what they want from life – and hopefully they choose to have a career working in football.
“The more women working in football, the more role models there will be for girls in the future, and the more girls that will want to play and work in football down the line.”
