Over £1k raised at memorial quiz night

More than £1,000 was raised for charity at a very special quiz night in memory of dedicated Albion supporter Sarah Watts.

The Brighton & Hove Albion Supporters Club recently hosted a quiz night in memory of Sarah, who was their secretary.

The event in Lancing brought together Sarah’s family, friends, supporters club members, and members of the public for an evening of fun and fundraising.

Sarah, who served as the club’s secretary and had been involved since 1983, played a vital role in shaping its mission and values.

She was a passionate advocate in the fight against homophobia in football. She also played an instrumental part in the club’s journey home after their time in Gillingham, and was named football supporter of the year in 2015.

Sarah sadly passed away in 2015 aged 49 from a brain stem tumour, weeks before her 50th birthday.

The quiz night raised over £1,000 for two charities close to Sarah’s heart: the BHAFC Foundation and Canine Partners. Albion legend Guy Butters attended the event and spoke about the Foundation’s community impact, as well as Sarah’s enduring legacy.

A raffle on the night featured a range of Albion-themed prizes, including a signed 2023/24 Albion home shirt, generously donated by the men’s first team.

Tony Foster from the supporters club said: “A great evening was had by all in memory of a great supporter who embodied the spirit of activism, passion and inclusivity.

“Sarah is sorely missed.”

Guy Butters added: “Sarah touched so many hearts, and it was wonderful to bring together all those whose lives she had impacted.

“The money raised for the Foundation will go towards helping young people in Sussex to get active, learn new skills, and live well. Huge thanks to BHASC for all their support.”
