Premier League Summer Sessions support young people during school holidays
The Premier League are supporting more than 15,000 children and young people this summer by funding activity run by professional football club community organisations, including Albion in the Community, across England and Wales.
More than 50 Premier League and EFL clubs will deliver the free sessions, to enhance the number of opportunities available to young people over the school holidays. Activity will be tailored to suit local community needs and includes football sessions and tournaments, primary and secondary school education sessions, as well as social action initiatives.
As part of this initiative Albion in the Community (AITC) are delivering Premier League-funded activities within communities across Sussex throughout the summer.
Paul Williams, Head of Community Programmes at Albion in the Community, said:
“We’re excited to support young people during the summer holidays and be part of the Premier League Summer Sessions. It’s been a year-like-no-other and the benefits of being active, having fun, and making friends cannot be underestimated. Our dedicated staff work tirelessly to support children and young people across Sussex and it’s thanks to the Premier League’s funding we can continue to provide this much-needed support over the summer holidays.”
Following on from an action-packed summer of sport, footballers with a disability will get the opportunity to take part in the charity’s football summer camps, an inclusive session that supports people with a range of disabilities to get active and develop their football skills in a fun yet competitive environment.
The charity will also be hosting a number of Premier League Kicks tournaments at the tail end of July at a variety of locations across Sussex including Brighton, Burgess Hill, Hastings and Worthing.
The Premier League Kicks programme focusses on working with young people to help them achieve their potential, as well as building stronger, safer and more inclusive communities. During school term Albion in the Community run these sessions on a weekly basis in areas of high need throughout Sussex and include workshops that cover societal issues like racism and discrimination, focusing on the Premier League’s No Room For Racism initiative.
Richard Masters, Chief Executive at the Premier League, said: “The past 18 months have been extremely challenging for young people, especially those who have had disrupted school terms.
“Community teams at Premier League and EFL clubs carry out a huge amount of incredible work all year round and have adapted brilliantly to offer different ways of staying in touch during the pandemic. These school holiday sessions are another way that we and our clubs are supporting those most in need to get active, develop their personal skills and build friendships.”
