25 schools go for gold at BHAFC Foundation challenge
Children from around 25 local schools were invited to the Amex Stadium for a series of interactive football-themed challenges.
Schools from across Sussex were invited to send teams of eight pupils to compete in the BHAFC Foundation’s Cross Curriculum Challenge Cup, in partnership with American Express.
Teams of children in years 5 and 6 took part in a series of fun, interactive, football-themed challenges designed to test their skills in numeracy, literacy, and geography.
Each school team competed in range of team challenges throughout the day to gain points for their school in the hope of winning the Cross Curriculum Challenge Cup.
The pupils were supported throughout the day by BHAFC Foundation tutors and around 20 volunteer colleagues from American Express.
Albion mascot Gully also made a special appearance to boost morale during the event.
Rob Josephs, Education & Employability Manager at the BHAFC Foundation, talked about how events like these can have a big impact on a young person’s learning.
“We were delighted to welcome so many pupils to our event, they were all very engaged and our tutors were really impressed with the level of engagement they saw,” he said.
“This was our biggest ever Cross Curriculum Cup, and it’s been heartening to see so many schools wanting to get involved.
“Getting pupils out of the classroom to learn can have a huge impact. It’s important to mix up pupils’ learning – especially for younger children – and giving them opportunities to think outside the box like this is really helpful.
“It’s a supportive but competitive environment, using football as a theme to make their challenges even more exciting, and we’ve found that pupils respond really well to it.”
