Free course for people looking for help finding work or changing careers
Albion in the Community (AITC) has once again teamed up with American Express to provide a free course for anyone aged 19 or over who is looking for help finding work or changing careers.
AITC and Amex have been running Work Ready together for eight years and the next course takes place over two days on Wednesday 6 June, at the American Express Community Stadium, and Tuesday 12 June, at Amex’s 1 John Street offices. It will cover a range of subjects, including CV writing, social networking, job searching, interview techniques and communication skills.
Volunteers from Amex will act as mentors and the programme is completely free to participants.
James Coupland attended a previous course and credits Work Ready with helping him find regular employment.
He was homeless and facing a range of challenges in his personal life but now works as a steward at Albion games. He said: “The people running it recognised I couldn’t commit to a nine-to-five job and gave me the support I needed. They really helped me get to where I am now.”
Christine Olson, Vice President at American Express, is one of the mentors. She said: “Work Ready is a great way to engage job seekers of all ages, whether they are looking for their first job, a career change, or returners to work. As a mentor, it’s great to be able to see how you’ve helped or motivated them, even in a small way, to achieve their goals.”
