Successful free women’s health event at The Amex
Dozens of women attended a free health event run by Albion in the Community (AITC).
AITC invited local women to visit the American Express Community Stadium on Saturday to find out more about a range of subjects, including reducing stress, eating healthily on a budget, and weight management.
There were stands providing details of free local sport, activity and fitness groups and other local services as well as information on the signs and symptoms of different cancers. Health experts also discussed national screening services and gave visitors guidance on cancer prevention.
Everyone who attended received a voucher for 10% off at the Club Superstore and there were free giveaways, a prize draw to win a signed Brighton & Hove Albion shirt, and free yoga taster sessions.
The free event was part of AITC’s Speak Up Against Cancer campaign, which is commissioned by NHS Brighton and Hove Clinical Commissioning Group and Brighton and Hove Public Health.
Support was provided by Brighton and Hove Buses, which donated 100 free bus vouchers given out on the day, Brighton Yoga Foundation, which provided yoga and mindfulness taster sessions, and Medical Imaging Partnership, which provided the venue free of charge.
Sue Brown, AITC’s health manager, said: “We were absolutely delighted to see so many local women come along to our free health event at the weekend and we’ve already had some fantastic feedback about how useful people found it.
“It is part of our wider work engaging people across Brighton and Hove and our thanks go to all organisations who supported us on the day and helped make it such a success.”
The charity is now finalising plans for a similar event focusing on men’s health which will take place at the American Express Community Stadium on 16 November between 10am and 3pm.
