Thousands of kids enjoy summer holiday football

The BHAFC Foundation has provided opportunities for thousands of young people to play football during the summer holiday.

While the football season ends in May, Foundation coaches carry on delivering sessions all year round, and summer is one of the busiest periods for the charity.

One of our largest programmes is BHAFC Soccer Schools, which provides fun football sessions (and much-needed time off for parents) during the school holidays.

Thousands of children aged 6-16 joined us at our soccer schools over the course of the summer holiday – with hundreds of girls also getting involved – across 12 different locations throughout Sussex.

Our disability football programme also continued through the holiday, with a number of tournaments and summer camps to choose from for our 350 disability members.

We also held summer camps for our football pathway programme, giving our young players the chance to keep sharp ahead of the 2024/25 season kicking off in September.

Some of our teams also travelled to Norwich to battle it out in the Canary Cup.

Meanwhile, our coaches continued to run free Premier League Kicks sessions across the county for over 1,000 kids, as well as some special holiday tournaments.

Mark Pedrick, head of Football Participation at the BHAFC Foundation, said: “Summer holidays are long and children need to be entertained, so what better way to do that than by playing football?

“We want young people to keep active, learn new skills, and most importantly have fun, especially during their long break off from school.

“From what I’ve seen our young people have been having a fantastic time this summer, and our coaches have been full of positive feedback for the energy and attitude of the players at our activities.”
