More Than A Game – how the Premier League help us change lives
The BHAFC Foundation, along with the Premier League, support more than 20,000 young people across Sussex every single year.
During September we’ve been highlighting the More Than A Game community showcase – a chance for us to talk about the many ways the Premier League help us change lives in local communities.
The Premier League has an ongoing commitment to supporting the lives of millions of people across the UK, breaking down barriers to opportunity, and providing safe spaces for young people to play and achieve their potential.
Thousands of children in Sussex take part in our Premier League programmes every year, learning new skills and becoming more confident people in the process.
Premier League Primary Stars
Helping children to learn through the power of football in more than 19,000 primary schools across England and Wales.
There have been over 18 million attendances by primary school pupils at club-led sessions since 2017. A total of 1.1 million children engage through digital resources per year, with more than 68,000 teachers registered for free downloadable lesson plans.
The total Premier League investment via the Premier League Charitable Fund over the last six years is £61.9 million.
Premier League Kicks
Premier League Kicks, the league’s longest-standing community programme, began in the 2006/07 season.
It provides young people with access to free weekly football and multi-sport sessions, mentoring and education workshops.
In the past 17 years the programme has engaged more than 520,000 young people, delivering over 1 million hours of free sessions at 4,900 venues across England and Wales.
Premier League Inspires
Using the appeal of football to help young people develop the personal skills and positive attitude to succeed in life.
More than 29,000 young people have received over 125,000 hours of targeted support across 960+ schools and educational facilities since the programme’s launch in 2019.
The programme is supported by the Professional Footballers’ Association and the Premier League.
Gully’s Health Squad
A programme unique to the BHAFC Foundation, Gully’s Health Squad was designed to deliver important practical nutrition information to young people in higher-need communities.
The programme has seen the Foundation’s Community Wellbeing team work with many local schools over the past two years, engaging primary-aged children with fun interactive workshops and assemblies.
Children are given the chance to make their own smoothies, prepare a healthy lunch, learn more about a balanced diet, and meet Albion mascot Gully too.
Gully’s Health Squad is made possible by the Premier League PFA Community Fund, which also helps support our work in girls’ football and disability football.
