Albion star supports free women’s health event at the Amex Stadium
Brighton & Hove Albion star Fern Whelan is encouraging local women to attend a free women’s health event at the American Express Community Stadium.
Whelan, who plays for the Albion in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, is helping promote the event, which has been organised by Albion in the Community (AITC), the football club’s official charity.
It will take place in Medical Imaging Partnership’s Brighton Diagnostic & Treatment Centre in the stadium’s East Stand between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 12 October.
Visitors will be given advice on reducing stress, eating healthily on a budget, and weight management, as well as details of free local sport, activity and fitness groups and other local services.
There will also be information on the signs and symptoms of different cancers and health experts available to discuss local screening services and give guidance on cancer prevention.
Everyone who attends will receive a voucher for 10% off at the Club Superstore valid for that day and there will also be free giveaways, a prize draw to win a signed Brighton & Hove Albion shirt, and a free yoga taster session.
AITC is hoping as many people as possible will go along – a sentiment which was echoed by Whelan, who as well as playing professionally for the Seagulls is also a qualified physiotherapist.
She said: “It is so important to look after your own physical and mental health and this event is a great way for people to find out what support is available to them locally and to ask any questions they may have.
“The work being done by Albion in the Community is fantastic and it’s brilliant to see the charity holding events like this. Hopefully as many people as possible will go along.”
The free women’s health event is part of AITC’s Speak Up Against Cancer campaign, which is commissioned by NHS Brighton and Hove Clinical Commissioning Group and Brighton and Hove Public Health.
Support has been provided by Brighton and Hove Buses, which has generously donated 100 free bus vouchers to be given out on the day, Brighton Yoga Foundation, who will be providing yoga and mindfulness taster sessions, and Medical Imaging Partnership, which has provided the venue free of charge .
