International Women’s Day: Mari Clark on her “dream job” as a nutritionist
Mari Clark is a nutrionist at Albion in the Community, having joined the charity three and a half years ago.
She helps people across Sussex every day to eat and live more healthily, whether that’s through her work out at schools or at the office.
Mari spends a lot of her time in schools working with local children, where she runs school assemblies, hands-on activities, and cooking sessions.
Alongside her work in the community Mari also provides nutrition sessions for the girls in the Brighton & Hove Albion Academy.
Mari believes that football can play a big role in changing people’s lives for the better.
“When I first came here I didn’t know anything about football, I didn’t even like football,” Mari said, “nowadays I wouldn’t miss a single match.
It’s really important for girls to see that there are women like me working in football.
“Football is so powerful in my role because I can link football and nutrition in my sessions.
“When I’m working with young people, I can tell them the reason Lamptey is so fast is because he had his porridge in the morning.”
Mari says that one of the best things about her “dream job” is meeting so many girls with a passion for football.
“A lot of these girls, they’re serious about football, and they really want the nutrition information,” Mari said.
“It’s really nice to see more and more girls coming to our sessions and I think it’s really important for them to see that there are women like me working in football.”
Taking part in football has huge health and social benefits, and Mari thinks it’s important to get as many girls playing football as possible.
“It’s brilliant exercise, a brilliant way to make friends, to learn about respect for others. And learn about nutrition obviously!
“It’s a great hobby that lays the foundations for their futures.”
