Foundation announces commitment to children’s rights
The BHAFC Foundation is announcing its commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
The Foundation will be working with UNICEF to embed a children’s rights approach to its work with children and young people in our community, starting by strengthening the way it listens to children to learn what positive changes the organisation can make to support them.
This commitment comes as part of the One Goal action plan for child’s rights. One Goal is a long-term plan that begins with a week of action highlighting five of UNICEF’s rights of the child:
- Right 3 – Best Interests of the Child
- Right 12 – Respect for Children’s Views
- Right 23 – Children with Disabilities
- Right 29 – Aims of Education
- Right 31 – Rest, Play, Culture, Arts
The sector-leading One Goal plan will support the rights of all children, fans, players, and Foundation participants.
Lynsey Hermann, Head of Community Programmes at the BHAFC Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with UNICEF, and I’m proud that we’re standing firm in our commitment to protecting children’s rights.
“Creating an action plan is just the beginning however, and it’s important that we remain consistent and committed to championing these rights in action.
“The vast majority of our participants are children and we recognise how deeply important it is to make them feel respected, heard, and above all, safe.
“By working alongside UNICEF in this groundbreaking partnership, we hope to create the best possible environment for children to learn, play, and grow.”
Albion’s partnership with UNICEF began in July last year, with the club committing to championing UNICEF’s efforts to build a world where every child is happy, healthy, and safe.
This also marked the start of a long-term initiative to combine football expertise with UNICEF’s leading voice on child rights.
