Albion blind team lift the FA Disability Cup

Brighton & Hove Albion Blind FC have made history by winning the FA Disability Cup for the first time.

Albion won 1-0 against RNC Hereford in the final last weekend to seal the victory and ensure the trophy came back to Sussex with them.

The triumph completed a historic league and cup double, after the Albion stormed to victory in the National Blind Football League last season.

The final was held at St George’s Park – England Football HQ – and thousands of people watched the game live on BT Sport.

Hamad Ebrahim was one of the stars of the show, scoring the only goal of the game and causing a constant threat to the opposition defence.

Ebrahim dribbled from deep and fired in a powerful left-footed strike to open the scoring, which left goalkeeper Katie Christopher with no chance.

Robin Williams also went close to scoring, coming within inches of scoring when he hit the woodwork with a powerful strike.

Blind footballing icon Darren Harris almost scored a trademark goal when he dribbled past several defenders and struck towards the bottom corner but Christopher made an excellent stop.

Ebrahim said after the game: “I am happy with my goal. For the defence, it is difficult to secure a victory when you only have one goal, so I am really happy we won.

“This is the first time I have attended the FA Disability Cup and the opposition was difficult so it was tough to score.

“We come here firstly for our wellbeing and our health but after that, we wanted to win.”

Brighton & Hove Albion squad: 1 Maciej Kason, 3 Cyril Thomas, 4 Liam Archer, 5 Robin Williams, 6 Saman Ojradast, 7 Hamad Ebrahim, 8 Darren Harris
