Gross and Haley named PFA Community Champions

Madison Haley and Pascal Gross have been named as our official PFA Community Champions for the 2023/24 season.

Both Pascal and Madison have gone above and beyond to support young people in Sussex this season.

In October, Madison held a Q&A session with secondary schools girls from BACA, talking both about her career as a footballer and also about the importance of the No Room For Racism campaign.

Later in the season, Madison visited girls at a regional Premier League Primary Stars tournament in Lancing, posing for photos and giving some inspiring advice to the young footballers there.

Madison was honoured to receive the award.

She said: “I’m so pleased to be one of the Foundation’s Community Captains this year.

“I’ve met loads of amazing young people this season, they’ve all been so enthusiastic and you can really see how much they love football, so it’s been an honour to help inspire them.”

Pascal has also been a big supporter of the Foundation this season.

In January he took the time to be interviewed by Mason, a young partially-sighted fan, who would then go on to transcribe the interview in Braille.

In April, he sat down with three young Foundation participants to discuss the importance of No Room For Racism in an interview that was filmed by the Premier League.

Pascal said: “Being named as a Community Champion is a really big honour for me.

“I’ve been at the club for a long time now and I’ve seen just how important the Foundation’s community work really is, so I’m always glad to help where I can.”

Maheta Molango, CEO Professional Footballers’ Association, said: “The PFA has once again been immensely proud of the outstanding efforts of players this season and we feel they should be recognised for their support and involvement in the local community.

“The Award will hopefully raise awareness of the importance many of our members attach to their roles off the pitch and highlight their continued commitment to support those most in need along with engaging in areas where they have a personal interest.

“We would like to offer our congratulations to this season’s recipient of the 2023/24 PFA Community Champion Award.”
