Women’s under-21s help to inspire future Seagulls

12 players from Albion’s Women’s under-21s squad (WU21) came to meet girls in our Advanced Centre.

The Advanced Centre girls, all aged between 11 and 16, were taking part in a training session at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre in Lancing.

They were paid a visit by 12 members of the WU21 squad, who came to meet the girls and give them an inspiring talk about what it’s like to be a female footballer.

The players held a Q&A with the girls, who asked them about their routes to becoming footballers and their favourite memories in the game.

It gave the girls a glimpse at what the future could hold for them, in particular because several members of the WU21 squad themselves used to play in our Advanced Centre.

Nathan Casselton, AITC’s women and girls development officer, thinks the talk had a big impact on the young footballers.

“Interactions like this are so important in keeping our girls inspired. I know they all got a lot out of that talk with the under-21s.

“A lot of the players were in their position just a few years ago, and now they’re on the edges of the Women’s Super League.

“It really shows them that their dreams are achievable and that there’s a real pathway from AITC to the Women’s first team.”
